Loving Lucite

One of Adorn Me Jewelry's favorite materials to work with is Lucite because it's so diverse, and in most cases is comparitively inexpensive while giving a very luxe look. While many often think of Lucite being strictly translucent, it actually comes in in many degrees of opaqueness, colors, and texture. We always love working with vintage components, and almost all of our Lucite used in our designs is vintage.

One of our best sellers -- and a sweet, fun, Springish pair of earrings are our Elle - Vintage Bead Earrings with a Modern Twist! Below vintage, crystal clear asymmetrical lucite beads hang one smooth round, opaque, baby pink, vintage lucite bead. The finishing touch is a fabulous asymmetrical, vintage lucite bead that's translucent pink! The entire piece is hand wrapped with shiny copper wire, and hang from shiny copper lever back ear wires. Our Champagne on Ice, Vintage Bead Earrings with a Modern Twist feature a vintage, clear, asymmetrical piece of lucite "ice" that has been placed between round, vintage lucite bubble beads -- the "champagne." Another one of Adorn Me Jewelry's favorites is our Lana - Vintage Teardrop Faux Pearl earrings. These sensuous beauties feature pale baby-pink, vintage lucite teardrop-shaped faux pearls. To add more glamor to these lovelies, 3mm white round Swarovski crystal pearls and 4.5mm simplicity-cut Copper Shadow Swarovski crystals have been added to the bright pinkish copper findings. An unusual vintage lucite piece for the pink lovers out there is our Chinese Lantern necklace in very pale iridescent pink. This necklace's focal point is an 11mm vintage ribbed and pebbled lucite bead that glows a soft, pale baby pink. All of the findings used are a deep gray gunmetal for contrast and feature a 2mm gunmetal round bead. The little 'lantern' hangs from petite gunmetal chain with a heart-shaped parrot clasp closure. If you're a lover of spring green, AMJ's Iridescent Peridot Green Vintage Bead Flapper Earrings are for you (plus they happen to be on sale)! They're 4" in length (including the ear wires) and feature big 18mm vintage lucite rounds that have the loveliest iridescent peridot green swirling pattern which dangle flapper style, from Vintaj Natural Brass findings. A piece that uses more lucite than any other is our Charlotte Redux - Vintage Romantic, Art Nouveau Era necklace (which also happens to be on clearance). This stunner features a large natural brass swallow stamping that is surrounded on each side by 1" long, clear, twisted, vintage lucite beads, which really sparkle. They are interspersed with antiqued brass-colored lucite beads with an Art Nouveau floral design and strung on etched antiqued brass chain. More photos and information can be found here. Another one of our Lucite items that happens to be on sale is our Amber Twist Vintage Bead earrings. Hanging from large sterling silver kidney wires, the 19mm x 15mm vintage lucite beads sparkle and emanate a firey warmth when the light hits them, and are capped with antiqued sterling inverse heart bead caps. Another lucite best seller is our Pashmina en Copper, Lush Vintage Bead earrings. The color of these is really such a beautiful pinkish copper. These leverback earrings feature intricately carved copper colored vintage lucite flute beads that hang from handmade ball end rosey copper head pins and are topped by with tiny little copper ball beads and 4mm bicone crystals in a newer Swarovski color called "Air." New Statement Necklace: A Fashion Forward Vintage Daffodil with Mixed Coal Black Chains

Statement necklaces are definitely very fashion forward right now, and this one mixes Vintage and Modern to make a visually strong statement with a very Summery feel that is perfect for Summertime outfits and sultry weather.


A single, very large (almost 3") rare Vintage daffodil is strung asymmetrically on four different types and sizes of black metal chain. The necklace is simple, but very trending and beautiful, with the ability to go with jeans or a black dress. It's held together with gunmetal jump rings and lobster clasp. Going on a mailing run today...

Every other week I go to New York to ship , so that my clients don't have to wait a month for their jewelry. Today is the day. Also going to pick up a magazine called "Stringing" based upon my friend, Sue's (www.wisperings.etsy.com) recommendation. I don't often look at such magazines, but why not?

Thought I'd post one of the items from our Adorn Me Jewelry at Etsy store. It's a huge vintage ceramic peony cabochon from occupied Japan (1940s-50s), has been mounted on an antiqued brass filigree, which was wired and mounted onto an antiqued brass filigree ring shank. It is a limited edition, so get it while you can.

Rustique, our new line of Cowgirl Chic jewelry

Contrasts really appeal to me, whether it's color contrasts, texture contrasts (either physical tactile or optical eye-feel textures), size -- so many things. I think it's part of why I have such eclectic tastes. Or do I have eclectic tastes because I love contrast? No matter. A new line of jewelry is born: Rustique.

"Rustique" airs a mix of old and new, rustic and refined, smooth and rough. It's all about contrasts: like cowboy boots and pearls, rough tweed and soft satin, chocolate and hot chili powder. Take our Rustique - Cowgirl Chic, Vintage Etched Glass and Hand-wrought Copper Necklace, for instance.

This Refined Cowgirl necklace pairs 10mm Vintage 1950s creamy white West German etched glass beads with hand-hammered pure copper eggplant-colored rings. These rings have been oxidized to give them a mix of eggplant purple-to black, and reddish rosey copper colorings and a sort of visual texture. The rings are 20mm (approximately .8") in diameter.

The beads have a twisted, ridgey texture, and do show their age in a few little spots that you can see in the photos. I haven't tried removing the spots, but you might. I figured it wasn't up to me to try to erase their history. :)

The rings are held together, by vintage copper chain links that have a rough-hewn look. The clasp is hand made from pure copper wire, the jump rings are antiqued copper, and the headpins are ball-end eggplant copper. This necklace also has matching earrings. More photos and info here.

Rustique - Cowgirl Chic, Smooth Vintage Bisque and Hand-wrought Copper Earrings

From our new Rustique collection, which pairs a mix of old and new, rustic and refined, smooth and rough. It's all about contrasts. Color, too, in this case -- like, say, orange and blue.

Now, these earrings don't have a pure orange color in them. But the copper rings that hold these Vintage 1950s West German Deco style bisque drops aloft do have some lovely rosey-orange copper tones. That really sets off the blues of those drops.

The drops are 20mm (approximately .8") in diameter. They have a smooth, ridgey texture, and do show their age in a few little spots that you can see in the photos. I haven't tried removing the spots, but you might. I figured it wasn't up to me to try to erase their history. :)

Take a look at these gorgeous hand-forged rosey copper rings. You can see from the photos that they have beautifully rich and varied colorations (depending upon the light cast upon them) and some great eye-feel texture. The rings are about 23mm wide. Ember - Captivating, Warmly colored Vintage Bead earrings

Emily, a Romantic Necklace with Vintage elements

Well, this necklace was in the Adorn Me store for less than one minute. A fabulous customer snapped it up almost as soon as I uploaded it. However, if you, too, simply must have this necklace, drop me a line or message me at Etsy and I have the supplies to make another one just like it -- the only variation being the little antique luggage key, as they are authentic and not all exactly alike. I will put it on reserve for you so that no one snaps it up. :)

I've always loved the Victorian, feminine name of Emily. To me, this necklace looks like an Emily.

The focal point is a gorgeous, large lavender pink celluloid rose mounted on an antiqued brass filigree. Below is a faceted, round deep plum crystal chandelier piece and an antique luggage key. The chain is antiqued brass, and it is doubled half-way up, with evenly spaced beautiful 8mm lavender pink, white and gold Czech glass melon rounds. The chain is brass, and at the back it has a little hand charm, which says "handmade," and a little iridescent mauve Czech glass flower. The closure is a brass lobster claw clasp.

The necklace is about 22" in length at the shortest point, which is the chain with the glass beads, and can be made shorter or longer. In total, it hangs almost 33" long and sells for $58.00.

Vintage Brass Calla Lillies

These simple yet elegantly beautiful vintage brass calla lily findings meld perfectly with the Czech glass lily beads also found in the post below. Here, not only do the colors glow all on their own, but light from them refract and reflect off of the brass lilies. Within each glass lily is a small, similarly-colored Czech glass flower; within that, a clear, tiny little 3mm AB Swarovski crystal. They are held together with brass ball-end head pins and are on brass lever back ear wires, and designed to face forward and not hang down.

Dragonfly Lore

They say when a dragonfly lands on you, you will hear excellent news from someone far away from home.

Dragonflies, or damselflies, were connected to Freya the Norse goddess of love, fertility and warfare. Freya was famous for her beauty and her knowledge as a magician. It was she who taught Odin the shamanic practices known as seidr which were still practiced during Christian times. The paired bodies of mating dragonflies form the shape of a heart, perhaps being the source for that modern symbol of love. In ancient lore, the dragonfly represents transformation, adaptation and insight. (Source: Crystalinks)

I find their iridescent gracefulness charming, and have clothing and jewelry featuring their images, so this necklace seems like a natural to me. I have taken a brass casting dragonfly made from a vintage mold and paired it with a beautiful 29mm ocean blue jade briolette to signify the water, which draws them, and some moonstone nuggets that are iridescent, like their wings. The necklace also has two kinds of small coppery Czech beads. The necklace is 21" long and has a lobster claw closure; if you would like it longer, let me know. If you want it a lot longer, a small extra charge may be involved.

The dragonfly has a 2 7/8" wing span and is 2 1/2" long. It's meant to hang just below the clavicle, but wear it as you feel comfortable. It sells for $27.50

With all those arms, a girl's gotta have some jewelry

Two new pieces today. I've had them here for a while and decided to finally try what I'd been seeing with the octopus from the moment I decided to buy her.

Olivia
The first piece is a sweet octopus named Olivia. She has scooped up some treasures from the sea and they trail from one of her arms. She is just over 2" wide, and 3 3/4" tall, from her head to the bottom of the siam swarovski crystal drop. The finish on her is hand-aged and buffed to a nice, deep lustre. The semi-precious jewels that hang from are a large, creamy cultured freshwater pearl, two 4mm labradorite rounds, two 4mm celestial larimar rounds, two garnet nuggets and the siam swarovski, all accented with little copper glass Czech beads. The chain is antiqued brass and is accented with another large pearl, a couple more garnet nuggets and two little copper Czech beads.

This necklace has no length, as you get to decide how long you want it to be when you order it. You get the first 20" of chain free; after that, it will be $ 0.35 extra per inch. This way, it's made to fit you perfectly and either fit like a semi-choker, with the drops in your cleavage, or as a long pendant. The cost for this item is $34.00. Update: The lovely Olivia has been sold and will be going to a very good home! I will have more for sale soon, though, so if you love her and must have her, I can make more. Vintage Lily
Next up is a pair of brass earrings based upon a pair of 20mm vintage brass lilies. I gave them a unusual cant so the front can be seen from the front, instead the best part facing downwards.

The inside off these are polished brass that really shines, and as you can see is an excellent reflective surface for the deep tanzanite 6x8 Czech glass flower cup beads, the 4x6mm Czech glass baby bell flowers (in milky strawberry), and the 8mm pale amethyst crystal rivoli swarovskis that hang front and center.

While these earrings are not OOAK, in that I will be making more (though they will likely vary in some ways), they are uniquely my own design. Adding beads to the ear wires is another custom touch, that by using the gold-rose faux metallic and two-tone glass Czech beads on the leverback earwires, they have a bit more sparkle and glow. I've been doing this sort of thing for a while, both as a different way of creating decorative ear wires, and also as a way to do something unique that can be customized for each pair of earrings. you do have to mind that they can come off when putting on and removing the earrings, so I will include some extra beads, just in case. These earrings are rather dainty in some ways, as each earring is only 1.5" long earwire tip to flowery bottom. They even make a charming little tinkling sound when you shake your head. The pair sells for $13.50.
